I came to the idea of making cubes of plexiglass very quickly, for me the style glass-and-white-paint is something I wanted to create long ago. However, I found it rather difficult to fit the sides of a cube together, even using laser cut. One more problem was about fingertips left on the glass and dust— you really can’t avoid it, even using gloves. Also, plexiglass is a very delicate material, so you should be very accurate with silk screening, and the paint is erased very easy.

But despite all this difficult things, when I’m looking at my project I feel proud for myself, because it looks exactly as I planned it to be. Transparent, white and black: simple colors, simple lines — all what I like.

When I was making layouts I was inspired by the presentation from the font-shop company — they are using color and big forms of symbols. I suppose I’ve fulfilled this task correctly. They are clear, they are communicating and they are simple.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to embody all ideas I’ve planned. I wanted to play more with the light to use, maybe put something inside the cubes and make photos of this process. Due to its material I think that it may be really interesting to put some cotton wool inside, or use light-emitting diodes, or some complex backgrounds, or use fabric as a bottom side. I experimented with light and background, but the cube’s structure opens a great variety of uses, I’ve used very small number of them.

The additional books I made look quite nice. I like that they are not like a common book — their pages can be going round, not only from right to left. This structure may be a very useful thing, especially when a person needs to see several pages at one time. This is an addition to the cubes, it is much more readable.
