Are You a Lady Publication

For this project we were assigned to make a publication including a cover, table of contents, department page, and two spreads. We could choose anything we wanted having to do with Seattle culture and I chose a Riot Grrrl focus, giving a history of the movement and showing how feminist punk rock is still relevent and alive in Seattle today. I started with this research document, figuring out my purpose for this project, who I wanted my audience to be and figuring out how to best approach the whole publication.
I began sketching the tile of the publication "Are You a Lady?" for the logo and brand of the whole publication. I like all of these ideas for different reasons but I ended up working with the middle one.
I wanted this publication to feel like a zine to match the Riot Grrrl aesthetic. I made this collage as an idea for the cover and placed the text needed around it. I felt like some people would think the publication was just for teenage girls with this cover and I wanted to have something that appealed to an audience in their 20s as well as teenagers.
This is my final publication pages. I changed the logo a bit to be more readable and worked to keep DIY elements while using rules of typography keeping in mind placement and hierarchy.
