Hawaii: Diamond Head

Diamond Head is a popular hiking place for visitors. My feet had been itching to head up this crater from the moment we landed in Hawaii.  We waited a few days until I couldn't handle it any longer and as we laced up our walking shoes I could feel it was going to be an amazing day.
We walked from Waikiki to the crater, we walked the long way past some beaches where locals were surfing. The walk this far was worth it in itself. We hung out at the beach (although the grass edge was VERY prickly and not so pleasant on our bums!) for an hour or so people watching and sipping on our water.
The weather was starting to warm up, so we headed to the crater.  As we got there I noticed a shaved ice van, which I vowed we would be demolishing at the end of the hike (and we totally did! I can definitely recommend the coconut flavour).
The walk itself up the crater was pretty easy (there were kids doing it). It was quite hot in parts, this is mostly due to the lack of shelter as you are walking up the rock so I'd definitely recommend doing this in the morning when the weather is a little cooler (although the heat didn't bother me too much, my hiking companion found it more challenging).
The stairs looked far more intimidating than they actually were and we were rewarded with the ultimate view of Waikiki. This was definitely the highlight of my stay in O'ahu and something not to be missed when you are in the area.

Heading up this popular crater was an easy hike which we tackled in the middle of the day.
