Film Boutique
The Film Boutique was the Applied Design Theory project of my third year at university. We were allowed to do almost whatever we wanted as long as there was a cinema within the scheme. I liked the idea of my cinema showing arthouse films and so I based my design on two French arthouse films; Amelie and Coco Before Chanel. I liked the differences between the two designs of the films. Amelie used warm colours, patterned wallpaper and homely furniture. I used this type of design for the entrance lounge, and dining areas of my scheme. Coco Before Chanel used a monochrome design and the furniture was quite simple. I used this for the cinema half of my scheme. I tied the two designs together by having 'teasers' on the walls where the opposing design would bleed through and 'slices' where the opposing design would cut through. There was also a small gap between the two designs which you could only see as you passed from one to the other. In this space, I placed boxes that glowed either white or pink to represent which side you where going into.
