ORANGE RINGS | Site-specific Art Installation, 2016

Art installation “ORANGE RINGS”
Veliko Turnovo, BG. 14th -15th  May 2016.
(site-specific)
12 Orange Rings placed between the two shores of the Yantra River, under Stambolov’s bridge in Veliko Tarnovo. The orange rings symbolize the life buoy and are arranged in four rows. The installation establishes a parallel between the free movement of the water and the global process of the human migration over time. Historically it had always been movement of large masses of people all over the world. Addressing questions such as: what are the actual borders that divide us? What are the causes that provoke this phenomenon and its consequences? How much is human life worth? ...

Located between the both shores of the river Yantra, the installation focuses in a visual way, the issue of refugees and the difficulties that are happening in order to reach the “desired land." The orange color is very striking, associated to extreme situations. The installation takes advantage of the good contrast with the landscape of the River in Veliko Tarnovo. The Orange circles are situated in the midle of the river, without being able to reach any of the two shores. Here comes this parallelism between the free flow of water and the not-so-free movement of persons, although this is “their” fundamental right in all constitutions. About the solidarity of societies, which are willing to accept them or not.

The project was performed out on 14th and 15th May on the occasion of the solo exhibition of the artist in the city of Veliko Tarnovo.
Thank You!
