This project is one I am most proud of, it follows the history of the Anglepoise lamp from when it was invented in 1932 by George Carwardine, to how the company endured WWII and then when the company was resurrected in the early 2000’s to continue the Anglepoise’s legacy to bring light into homes. This book highlights the products great design which employs both form and function. Here is the introduction to Made to Last to give you a feel of the book.

The Modern Desk features many well-used objects, some new, some old, but one, in particular, has been a trademark of the work area for 82 years. The Anglepoise, a balanced arm suspended by springs, controlled by Equipoise mechanisms. A task light that displays the hallmark of both the industrial revolution and the art deco era yet is somehow still a modern piece. It has become a collector’s item for the Modern Desk. The origins are humble, an automotive engineer tinkering and stumbling upon it by chance. However the Anglepoise wouldn’t be here had the spring it uses not been invented, and yet again without some clever thinking and new eyes, the Anglepoise would not be still in production today. The Anglepoise is the definition of hardy and trusting, they are Made to Last the test of time.

Made to Last was selected as a finalist in Best Awards 2016 (graphic design student).
