Gestalt Principles

Gestalt Principles for Visual Perception  draft script
The term Gestalt means 'unified whole.’
Gestalt principles show us how the brain organizes our complex visual experience. It helps us to make sense of our environment. They show us how we organize visual elements into groups, and how we see a unified images, rather than separate pieces. Understanding these concepts can help us arrange elements of art effectively.
Closure occurs when a space is not completely enclosed, but we perceive that the shape is complete.
In continuation, the eye flows along a line, and then along another line. We perceive 2 lines crossing each other - not separate pieces.
Similarity means that we group similar objects together. If one object is different, it is called an anomaly, and stands out from the others.
Proximity means that shapes which are close to each other are perceived as one object.
We perceive images as having an object separated from a background.
