The GOAL
The creators of Zatch came to us with a unique app recommendation algorithm for indie games. It had already been successfully tested on Windows Phone and they were looking to develop an app for Google Play.
The first step was UX design for two initial iterations of the app. The first of which allowed users to swipe through options, a la Tinder style, to discover: "Do you like this app? Or what about this one?" After gauging the user’s preferences, the algorithm automatically creates a list of apps that are likely to appeal to the user. The second iteration then divides the recommendations into different categories to enhance discoverability.
Our client wanted to fine tune the art of app discovery with an intuitive UI design. Our recipe for this included large images, animations and dark backgrounds. However, on the contrary, Google Material Design usually suggests concepts with a light background. We had to balance these design perceptions, make the UX both simple and engaging, and preserve the initial idea, while at the same time enhancing the promotional effect.
All interfaces are designed in accordance
with Google Material Design guidelines.
Nowadays it’s relatively easy to emulate a technological product idea. In such circumstances UX and UI are the differentiating factors when it comes to creating a strong relationship with the end-user. Here animations come in handy - adding dynamism and life to an interface. They help to create a special feeling, a desire to play with the interface elements, engage users and establish an emotional relationship with them.
