Tacking the border to create the "can" so LEDs can be added inside. A border with a smaller can will be mounted to the wall and this outer can will slip over it. This shields the light from escaping through the back while simultaneously easing installation.
Detail of henna art inspired decor. Tack-welded onto the front via holes drilled on the surface of the main face.
Subtle henna-like designs on the edge of the can, created by first spraying a matte clear coating to the metal to prevent rust, then using the outer decorative metal pieces as a stencil and spraying gloss clear coat over it.
The face of the can, finish done with angle grinder. The "om" symbol is 1/8" perforated steel to allow light through, lightly sanded for depth.
The finished product, shown with artist, installed in yoga studio. Remote-controlled LEDs make virtually any color and brightness.
Never wanting to be wasteful, the scraps from cutting out the "om" are used as another work of art. A wall-hanging piece made for another friend.
