Commons Roast Coffee Packaging

South Whidbey Commons, a non-profit organization that operates a coffee shop giving high school students work experience in exchange for school credit contacted me about having coffee bag labels made in time for their fall 2015 fundraiser event. Roasted locally by the same company that supplies the coffee shop’s day-to-day beans, Mukilteo Coffee Roasters’ Commons Roast is a rich medium-dark blend with a warmth that matches the atmosphere of the Commons Coffeehouse.

OBJECTIVE
The coffee bags needed to echo the look and feel of the Commons Coffeehouse while simultaneously standing out as a unique item separate from the business' own coffee stock. Taking inspiration from the chalkboard signage found throughout the coffee shop, I selected vertically-stressed typefaces and weathered the design. An illustrated coffee bean heart references both the logo of the roasting company, as well as the spirit of community that makes up the core of the Commons' values. The monotone color scheme pulls its accent color from the South Whidbey Commons logo itself, and the unadorned silver bags, in addition to being budget-friendly, complement the labels by adding visual interest with a shiny metallic finish that doesn't overwhelm the label contents.
