This was a contest launched by Domus Academy in collaboration with Bitossi. The brief was to invite the candidates to explore the concept of a kitchen that is able to answer to the evolving human needs and expectations in relation to social and private living. For this, my proposal was to create a Kitchen Lab, a space open to sharing and experimenting. Spatially its an open kitchen that connects to the other social areas of a house. The concept of a traditional kitchen has now evolved into a more complex one: a space in which many more activities rather than just cooking occur. The kitchen is the heart of the home, people tend to gather there, so why not having a proper space where everyone can be part of the cooking experience. I propose to include many tools that will facilitate and enrich the time a person, cook and spectator, spend in the kitchen. Mixing aesthetics with functionality this turns out to be a flexible appealing space that anyone would enjoy to have at home.
