Business Processes

The study of business processes gave us a foundation for the rest of our course. It allowed us to see how the completion of several small tasks can end up completing several small tasks or some sort of organizational goal. In the case of this video, we see how several small steps in tying a tie, such as the initial cross over and tucking the front down through the final loop, end up completing the task of successfully tying a tie.
One business process that stuck out to me specifically was supply chain management. When we studied supply chain management, I already knew about vertical integration. It made sense to me that you would reduce your cost as much as possible by buying the companies that provide you with materials. However, once we started doing Phase II of the simulation, I was able to see how that works in action. We didn't have the option to buy our suppliers, but it would have reduced our costs by a large amount because we had to buy so many raw materials. If we were doing the simulation in real life, once I had enough net income, I would have purchased the companies that supplied us with cereal boxes, wheat, oats, and flavor products (blueberry, strawberry, nut etc.).
