BUILD Program - Graphic Design, Branding Mentoring

While living in East Palo Alto, a low-income community, I found myself wanting to give back.
I found BUILD, a program that helps youth in underprivileged areas by giving them the opportunity to learn entrepreneurship skills by running a small business.
During our weekly after-school meetings, I helped a group of high school students at Golden State Preparatory Academy brand their business. The team of students, dubbed the Dream Team, wanted to sell a product to help kids who came to school hungry.
The Dream Team designed a product called Plug Grub, oddly named after Drake's popular song called, "The Plug". Apparently, being a 'plug' is akin to being cool and someone that your friends can rely on (doesn't take long to get surpassed by ever-evolving teenage lingo).
With my constraints set, I set out to create the branding and marketing collatoral for the team. These business cards are what the team ended up choosing for their tinsie-tiny budget.
The project was fun and taught me a ton about how to get creative with some strange constraints. In the end, I was just happy to see that the kids loved it. They felt so professional with their business cards :)
