Eisenerz, the town in Styria where the festival takes place, is an old Austrian mining town that used to be a good place to live with plenty of jobs in mining. As in many places industrialization turned that around and so people had to move away in order to find work.
The team behind Rostfest committed themselves to revitalize that beautiful part of Styria by hosting an annual free festival with music, art, urban camping and sporting activities to name but a few.
