A selection of portraits I took of our cast for the theatre company I ran this year. The show was RENT, a rock opera about a group of 20-something misfits living through the AIDS epidemics. Gender, sexuality, and class are all discussed in this play, as well as issues of addiction and community. The shoot's theme was "Looking for a light"- in life, as in a light at the end of the tunnel, or the light of community/ or to light a cigarette and/or melt crack, as Mimi is doing in the bittersweet romantic song, "Light my Candle".
