This project was made for the IESNYC lighting design competition. This year's theme was time. The light fixture is made up of acrylic, with internal lighting and wiring.

 

 

The bustiling city of New York is continuously changing, as time seems to race fast. As day becomes night, one thing that stays constant is the never ending energy of the city that never sleeps. IllumiCity is an interactive fixture that allows the viewer to experience how light in the city changes through time to reflect this constant energy. By using a switch, the user can transition between day and night, and observe how natural light and artificial light affect the urban landscape. Whether it be by the warm sun glinting off the skyscrapers during the day, or the glowing lights of windows during the night, our city is always alive and illuminating.
