Postindustrial Postcards

May 1st is national holiday in Bosnia-Herzegovina and has been celebrated as International workers' day. On that very day I took some snaphots of closed gates of abandoned factories in once industrial town of Bihać. The factories were not destroyed by 1992-1995 Bosnian war, but in post-war transition and privatisation. Weathered signs are reminder of once upon a time prosperous life for many citizens of Bihać.
From the features of factory signs and logos I am developing an experimental typeface called „Postindustria“. I used this typeface combined with factory snapshots to make „Postindustrial postcards“. Dying (?) form of written correspondence present recent picture of once infamous factories in former Yugoslavia. Some letters have been extracted out of the factory names to make second meaning. Food factory „žitopreRADa“: word RAD means – labour; Metalwork factory „kRAJinametal“: word RAJ means – paradise, etc. All of the extracted words have positive, but in present Bosnia, also distant, nostalgic, sometimes surrealistic meaning.
Postindustrial postcards were exibited on postcard holder. All were gone until the end of exhibition. Some were mailed to friends and relatives abroad.
