I am very interested incertain aspects of psychology, particularly crime and deviancy. I wish tounderstand who or what determines the “appropriate” way to think about things& what makes someone “odd” or “normal”. Last semester I investigated thetheme of fetishes. I was particularly interested in what sparks in someone’smind an attraction to items such as trees or animals. Why does this occur in aminority and at what level does it become a fetish? When did 5 people with aballoon fetish become 5,000 people in a balloon fetish community? No doubt newsocial media and the internet have as huge part to play in these developmentsand it leads me to question what else will be to come in a decade’s time.

My investigations into sexualfetishes drew together all the main elements I wanted to include in my work –sociology, psychology, deviancy and traditional textiles. My fetish pieces wereinvestigating the sliding scale of acceptability. More and more things arebecoming acceptable with each decade that passes and this leads me to question“where will this end?” Will there eventually be no deviancy. ?
