Photography has been a passion of mine since grade school. Through the years, as I learned more about photography, I found myself attracted more to portraits and landscapes. On one hand, portraits give insight to someone's personality, and on the other, landscapes allow people to experience places they have never been before. Portraits are not only headshots, but a way to show personality and express one's self in a photo. Landscapes can show detail and allow people to see things in your perspective.
Work in Progress of Self Portrait
These are a few of the steps I did to create my self portrait. This was inspired by an old developing process in photography called "tintype". For the original image, I used a single point light with a reflector to bounce light onto the shadows under my chin and into my eyes. Once in Photoshop I began by enhancing my eyes to give the same effect seen in tintype images, as well as retouching my face. After that I started to process the color in the image to give it a desaturated tone and darker exposure. The only thing left to add was the imperfections caused by the devoloping process. To achieve this, I layed multiple grungy textures onto a solid background, then I took the result and overlayed it onto the portait. The final image is a modern day take on a old photography medium.
Self Portrait
This is the resulting "tintype" inspired self portrait.
Color Gel
In this image, I used a two point light setup. One light on the right of the model covered with a magenta colored gel, and the other light on the left side of the model covered with a blue colored gel. This created a unique portrait with interesting model lighting.
Landscape
Shot of a twisting road located in Colorado. I love this image for not only for the interesting angle, but as well as the detail in all the nature and foliage.
Passing
This image depecits three flowers that have aged and withered. I love the level of detail in the dried petals as well as the overall dark tone and subject matter.
