While awareness amongst all groups of society towards the importance of marine and freshwater ecology and diversity is rising, it certainly requires a spurt of action and collaboration to conserve and protect. The recent mass stranding of Short-finned pilot whales in Tamil Nadu happened while we were creating this poster and remains like a stamp on our work - in memory of all the lives that were lost for causes unknown. Marine mammal research in India has been developing rather slowly and we hope India is soon able to develop the capacity to do state-of-the-art research when it comes to marine mammals in our waters.
This poster, 'Marine mammals of India' came about as a spontaneous, organic idea to Dipani. Delighted at the thought of an art-science collaboration, we started off. We are grateful for continuous scientific support from Thomas A. Jefferson & Bernd Wursig, to Suparna Vashisth & Ariane Ginwala for supporting us without a second thought.
