I really love the look and design of Rey's speeder from the new Star Wars so I bought this toy. One problem: It does not look nearly dirty enough to have been ridden around Jakku. I decided to fix that.
All weathered! Roughly 12 layers of paint washes in varying colours.
Trying to match the "scrubbed away rust" texture on the side of the speeder was really difficult.
I added the yellow paint around the front of the grill, which was completely missing from the toy's paint. I was able to match the colour pretty closely. I then chipped away at it with my fingernail and a thumb tack to make the paint look old and worn.
Painting the net was actually the hardest part of this weathering process. Lots of tiny spots for the paint to pool up. One other thing I did was file away some of the plastic around the "dent" on the nose of the speeder, as the sculpt didn't quite match the speeder used in the movie.

I tried to match a still from the trailer. Interesting fact: the shots of Rey's speeder in the trailer are flipped horizontally.
Rey still looks really weird though...
