Fictional Event Poster

This project was created for my Typography & Page Layout course for Full Sail Online. I was told to create an event poster that would reflect how I interpret the bands, music, venue, and energy surrounding the event. The rules for this fictional poster were that I had to make the main forcus of the poster typgoraphically driven. I was also expected to provide the event location, time, date, and any other particular information regarding the made up event.

Since I live relatively close to the Washington DC, I decided that I wanted to pick a venue from that area. Once I started thinking of local bands that I would want to headline the event, I immediately came up with Northern Virginia's own Foo Fighters. It also just so happens that the lead singer, Dave Grohl, is a part owner of the DC venue, the "Black Cat". The pairing just made perfect sense. For the rest of the lineup, I chose a couple of bands that I liked as well as a band (HUM) that had a similar type sound to the Foo Fighters.
The finished gig poster.
Close up of the "Black Cat" nameplate.
Deatil work on the Les Paul guitar.
The pickups are comprised of the letters DC (Washington DC) and BC (Black Cat), the venue.
Detail shot of the lineup bands.
I used a free typeface named "Square Wise" that I downloaded from www.dafont.com to create the base lettering and then manipulated each letter until they fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
One last detail shot of the time slot in which this fictional event would occur.
My brainstorming for this project. I wasn't sure if I wanted to attempt a reunion tour with all of the local bands or not, but finally decided that it wouldn't make too much sense to have so many different sounding bands in such a small venue.
