Garamond Premier Pro - Typographic Specimen Catalogue

❛ Garamond Premier Pro ❜
is a typographic specimen catalogue for the digital typographic family designed by Robert Slimbach in 1989.
While attending professors’ Ana Boavida and João Bicker typography classes at Coimbra University I was requested to pick a typeface from Adobe’s Font Folio and come up with a format that would work as a typographic specimen catalogue using both sides of a B2 paper sheet.
I choose to present Adobe’s Garamond Premier Pro and decided to divide the sheet into 12 even squares which provided a foldout with a series of “small sets” to introduce the type family.

Here’s a stop-motion animation with the paper prototype of the catalogue.
The first four “pages” (sets) comprise a series of texts about the history of this historical old style serif, its distinctive details and the history of typography itself. Texts were framed in traditional one column grid layouts.
The next six “pages” present a series of quotes by some great fiction authors and philosophers set in a more joyful and unbind approach.
On the inside, the twelve squares form just a single page that works as a poster. The thirty-four weights of the typographic family are revealed using not a pangram but by repeating three assorted rules of typographical “common sense” set in 9.5pt, 12pt and 18pt body.
All featured text is my own research which I translated from English to Portuguese.

Here’s another stop-motion with the final typographic specimen catalogue.
