The Wild Countryside project is a two-phase process: first, create an 4 ft x 4 ft repeat in a 2 x 2 matrix; next, take one 4 ft x 4 ft repeat unit and reproduce it in 8 - 10 colors. In the first part, dozens of watercolor/gouache paintings of flowers, trees, bushes, etc. were created. These original paintings were then photocopied, cut, and assembled to create the 8 ft x 8 ft grid.

Starting the second phase, a palette was created and colors were compared against one another.
The palette is finalzed to 7 colors, with black and white as well.
I created a concept board to investigate different ways of adding a pointillism texture, whether it was dots, dashes, and/or lines of the same or varying sizes. I found myself very inspired by the work of Josef Frank.
