Change of Course | Student Film

This is my final film for my one-year Classical Animation program at Vancouver Film School. The film itself (from storyboard to final file) was done in a spam time of 72 days.

My short film has 13 scenes, with 82 layers total. All 3.000 frames have been created by around 1.000 drawings on paper, (and maybe some more from scrapped roughs and sketches). After all frames and layers were hand drawn on paper, it was all scanned into Toom Boom harmony to be vectorized, painted and composited.

I did all of the compositing as well. with the biggest node library having as many as 112 nodes. The sound was done at the school by a sound editor, but besides that absolutely everything was done by me.This was the product of a lot of hard work after a few months spent learning the techniques and principals of animation to apply to this film.
This is one of the first approved Rough Scenes. For each one of them we'd follow the storyboard, then use the layout to animated a rough pass on each of our scenes and an instructor would approve it to go on to clean stage where we'd inbetween and clean it, or he;d make suggestions to what we should change and correct before we showed it again to get the approval. Sometimes a scene would go back to my desk many times before it was good enough to clean.

Here's an example of the process of a scene from storyboard to final clean animation

And down here a few of the early sketches I did while developing the idea for my film, and the storyboard I got approved:
