수백명에 의해 공유된 장소도 개인의 기록 보관소가 될 수 있을까? 나에게는 지난 3년 넘는 시간 동안 매일 드나든 학교가 그랬다. 학교는 유치원생부터 고등학생, 청소부, 요리사, 교직원 등 다양한 나이, 직업, 문화를 가진 수백명의 사람들에 의해서 공유되어지는 공공장소이다. 하지만 이렇게 여러 종류의 사람들에 의해 공유된 한 장소가 개개인에 따라 모두 다른 기억으로 남는다. 이 작업은 서로 거울에 반사되는 시선의 충돌로 우리의 눈에 비춰진 학교를 그린 작업으로 하나의 공유된 장소를 다른 배경에서 온 개인들이 다르게 바라볼 수 있다는 것을 표현하였다.
While the room depicted in the drawing Archive is my private place in every sense of the term, I think public spaces can be also treated as a private place in a way, as it is experienced and remembered differently by different people. This drawing describes my school seen in such various ways as reflected on the mirror. Kindergarten kids, high school students, cleaning ladies , chefs, administrative assistants live the school in all different manners, recreating it as manifold private places.
