Haptic Zine

Editorial Design, Print Design, Art Direction
Who is Kenya Hara? Or more precisely, how does Kenya Hara think? My first encounter with him was in a book published by him — Designing Design. Which talks about his philosophies in design, one of them being HAPTIC, awakening the senses. The inspiration and narrative that sparked the birth of this Zine that aims of introducing and inspiring the next generation designers.

The visual principles of the Zine, is directly influenced by Kenya Hara. Hara is concern, design is not just about creating better solutions but also searching for a better question, thus the chapters were intentionally asked as questions — who, what, how and why. Hara strongly believes that design isn’t just about colours or shapes but rather it’s the design role to give a rich experience to it’s audience by activating the user’s tactile senses, in which trigger the idea for two covers, both simulating the sense to touch and visual attention. Also, one conistency through the publication is the use of circle graphic element, an idea inpired by the circle from the Japanese flag. Visual inserts, were part of the idea of interactivity between the zine and readers.
