This single family suburban home was designed not only to be a net zero energy home, but to respond to the idea of having both a spatial and mechanical core within a home. The spatial core, being the kitchen, is located in the center of the home since it is the most commonly used room in the house. The placement of the two cores creates a axial organization system that repeats itself on the second floor in addition to the first floor. Specific lighting and ventilation needs also drive the design by creating double height spaces to allow for light to get into every space and for air to circulate throughout the home.
