Native American Student Association Logo

The Native American Student Association at the University of Iowa approached my workplace, Student Life Marketing and Design, about producing a new logo. They wanted to incorporate traditional Native American colors and symbols which included medicine wheels, dream catchers, teepees, and arrowheads.
Drafts
Quick, varied, and numerous is the way that I approach logos. My work board has each logo idea on an artboard, with different versions and work dragged onto the side for future reference.
The first group of designs incorporated the medicine wheel, which represents many healing components of nature, and the teepee. I worked to make the teepee look like part of the medicine wheel.
This second group of drafts include different versions of the dream catcher, as well as the color turquoise which has a lot of meaning to the Native American Community. I also added a design with an arrowhead.
The last group of logo drafts include a simplified version of a teepee, depicted in the color turquoise and purple. A gradient effect of purple to orange was used to represent the sunset
Ultimately, the student group picked the logo below.
