2015TargetCompetition: Simplistic Extravagance

For my white space, I wanted focus on an area in Target that I haven’t really explored before – menswear. I didn’t want to look into their Mossimo brand because it had a decent variety of items available to customers. Unfortunately, the other store brand – Merona, had very little options for men. The selection available to buyers included mostly casual clothing with a few options suited for a more business attire. I decided that I wanted to have more tailored options available for men ages 25-30 to wear. My concept for this collection is based on the simplicity in the settings of 1930s documentary photography contrasted with the extravagant and precise detailing found in the period’s Art Deco of architecture & interior design. I was intrigued by the Dorthea Lange’s scenes and activities of the everyday people. Her photographs rarely featured posed people and each object or person represented had a story. The reason I chose to contrast it with the Art Deco movement of that period is because the elements of that style had so much more detailing compared to the barren photographs taken by Lange. I plan to have this collection be for the fall-winter season; therefore it features a number of knits and wovens. The colors are rich and bold and with a few different print styles.
