After 2 years working with a third-party development company at Sky Bet we decided to bring the product in-house.
The strategy used was to create a mobile website in HTML5 & CSS (m.skybet.com) and to create a hybrid app for iOS.
User feedback was taken from the existing app and used as the basis of the 'problems' to be fixed in the new app. User sessions were set up in the Leeds Sky Bet office inviting users to view demos and designs and give feedback throughout the process.
Navigation
As part of the re-design it was chosen to move the navigation from the foot of the app to the top of the app where the javascript code used would be best rather than trying to fix the menu to the footer of the screen on many different devices.
Making this change also allowed for more content to be 'behind' the menu and for cross-sell logos and links to other products in the product catalogue.
Live Betting
Live betting has grown in popularity as the betting services have improved with faster data, quicker bet placement and deposit processes. The new site is designed with live betting as a priority and with the best and cleanest UX in the industry.
Coupons
The ability to place multiple and accumulator bets is fundamental to UK betting as a legacy of coupons in the bookmaker shops. The redesigned site gives a cleaner designed and increases the number of sports offering coupons.
Content
The site is the first in the market to give the users access to full Horse Racing form and analysis, as well as editorial previews of the biggest sports fixtures.
Bet to View
In July 2012 Sky Bet was the first betting company to offer video streams of the race live when a qualifying bet is placed. This updated site makes the implementation of this much better showing you your selections and sending push notifications moments before the races begin.
Reviews
The app was very well received by the audience and had a 5star review rating since release.
