THE SALTON SEA

Venture past the luxury pools of Palm Springs deep into the heart of the desert to the desolate Salton Sea.
The Salton Sea is a shallow, saline, endorheic rift lake located directly on the San Andreas Fault.
Formed by accident around 1905 after extensive flooding caused the Colorado River to bust through irrigation diversions and pour into the Salton Basin. A truly eerie place straight out of a Mad Max Film.

Surface elevation: -226.4′
Area: 343.2 mi²
Location: Colorado Desert; Imperial and Riverside Counties, California, U.S
Max. depth: 43 ft (13 m)
