CONCRETE BARRIER DESIGN
Swedavia AB - Göteborg Landvetter Airport
Swedavia was tired of their old, broken and variously shaped concrete barriers around Göteborg Landvetter Airport. I was assigned to develop a design for the new concrete barrier. Together we decided to start sketching in the abstract sense of an airplane.
Analysis of present barriers - diverse quality and shape creates a messy impression

A distinct slanting direction of the airplane body - a postion for both takeoff and landing. I wanted to reproduce the feeling of force of lift. The idea is to mimic the appearance of the fuselage willing to tear itself loose from the base and lift.

Final design
The distinctive design language with few details are made withstands the rigors of weather and wind. The shape is easy to read as a barrier when in traffic context. The base plate, and the symmetry also contributes to the stable expression.
