The decision of doing natural dying with the eri silk was again to fulfil the criteria of rainbow products. It was done with Mr. Narmohan Das who resides in a small town called Bijoynagar which is a few kilometres away from Guahati. Mr. Narmohan specialises in silk weaving and dyeing of eri silk. He uses natural raw material which is locally available to achieve dye colours like red, yellow, shades of green, blue, aubergine and brown. Being there, i learnt about the the extensive process of natural dyeing starting from mordanting, making the dye bath, dyeing, finishing.

SHIBORI WORKSHOP

along with learning about the various techniques of natural dyeing, we conducted a 3 day long shibori workshop with the local girls of Bijoynagar. They explored shibori techniques like nui, itajimi, arashi and moira and developed silk and cotton samples.
