UCLA Architectural Design:An Event Pavilion of Cinespia

Playtime: An Event Pavilion of Cinespia
The creation of an overhead pavilion within the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
The focus of this project is on the relationship of enclosure and envelope to human activity. This pavilion will cover a large open lawn enclosed by a large building which movies are projected onto and various other structures.

FIGURE A: A site study of the project location. I was asked to focus on a fundamental aspects of the preexisting areas environment and address them within my structure.
IMAGE A: The study model below was the inspiration for my pavilion. This project would be a further use of our study of aggregation and the manipulation of a single form. I was interested in the complex form of the cul-de-sacs below. These circles became my unit of aggregation.
IMAGE B: A scale model pavilion for the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This model is made up of the aggregation of single units which varied in 3 scales. Each one of these units is layered in order to bring light and shadow into the open space of this location. Each unit consists of a smaller circle encompassed by a larger one. The inner circles are lifted on either side in order to bring dimension to the structure and allow light to stream through. The asymmetrical shape of this structure accommodates the presence of vendors and allows for there to be both covered and open lawn areas.
This model is made entirely out of printed paper with ink. I created an interpretation of the cul-de-sac image and shape in order to produce a consistent unit on Rhino.
Image C-F: Using Rhinoceros I created a three dimensional scale model of the physical mode.
