The Design Thinking Gym workshop took part at the Kunstsalon in Cologne, Germany, between December 1 and 4 of 2013. In cooperation with the CC team, I guided the participants —Telekom managers— through a Design Thinking iterative process —research, analysis, ideation, prototyping and testing— in a learning-by-doing project: How to improve the Christmas markets in Cologne?
Research
Guerrilla observations, desk research and quick conversations were the methods and tools applied during the research phase.

Analysis
Storytelling was captured with post-its. Venn diagrams and stakeholder maps were other tools applied during this phase.

Ideation
Brainstorming, idea mixer, idea napkin and cooking were the methods and tools applied during the ideation phase. Based on the principles of the idea mixer, the last method allows participants relaxing, talking and combining the lived experience with the needs in mind in order to come up with wild ideas for new products and services to fit something or someone with this combined description.

Testing

This phase of the creation process took us back to ideation; the project we initially though were not realizable within the financial margins.
