DSPLY 2015: Degree Show Handout

DSPLY 2015

-

Our role within the production of the DSPLY Degree Show at the University of Huddersfield was to produce a visual guide to a collective of all the students final projects.

With having based our final project on publicising a fashion brand, we ran with a really simple idea of a lightweight, easy to pick up newspaper style handout that can be collected at various points throughout the show and be saved as a keepsake for students and those visiting.
Each year the degree show is given a different theme, for us this year we were tasked with creating a running style of 'feathers'. There was an initial competition to find the chosen image and thus below you will find all of our ideas that include said image for the cover of our paper.
We collected the professional photographs of every students final projects and found that collating all the imagery in a way that is equal and fits the layout is an incredibly testing and long process. Many students wanted multiple images or multiple projects showcased and others didn't have enough work to show in their section, creating many problems for us as directors!

Decision making is one of the most stressful but MOST important part of being a designer, and choosing a cover was no exception. However in this case we discovered that having a couple of different variations of the paper would actually work in a way that you can "collect" them and that not everybody has exactly the same print. The above are the final covers chosen.

The initial theme of a 'feather' really made it difficult for everyone to grasp initially, but given a little time we all found the ground and ran with it and i'm really glad we did.
