Breaking the News
Idea/Brief
The final outcomes are two magazine spreads with infographics supporting the article. I have
chosen a highly controversial topic of abortion; the aim was to create a realistic view (rather than
emotive) of abortion, which is why I have chosen to use a science-based approach. The style
of infographics was specifically developed so that they are not explicit, but purely informative.
Visual Language
The infographics, typeface and layout mimic a science textbook, for the reasons mentioned above:
to create a realistic view point and accompany an article full of facts. The numbers have been placed
in a middle of the page for two reasons: to follow a 'horizontal line of the layout', and secondly, as
part of the modern, and scientific theme. The colours are not gender-specific yet interesting and
soft enough to be considered user-friendly.
