Grateful Dead "Fare Thee Well" T-shirt Design

This vintage label style typographic design was created as part of the official merchandise line for the Grateful Dead “Fare Thee Well” Celebrating 50 Years concerts.

The original members of Grateful Dead were joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards) and Bruce Hornsby (piano) to perform at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on June 27th and 28th and Chicago's Soldier Field on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th. These run of shows marked the original members' last-ever performances together.

As a long time fan of the Grateful Dead, I was delighted to work on the project. Since my early days, I've been greatly inspired by their album covers and concert posters, both of which helped me choose graphic design as a profession. Quite happy to have created this new lettering design, which incorporates some of their elements of their album iconography. Credit goes to Stanley Mouse who illustrated the "turtles" from the LP "Terrapin Station" and to Alton Kelly for the "Skull & Roses" motif. I had the opportunity to meet both of these great artist in the 1980's/1990's.
I'm pleased and honored to also mention that Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart wore this 3/4 sleeve raglan shirt design during their last ever Grateful Dead performance on July 5th, 2015 ;-)
