US Fish and Wildlife Region 5 Visitor Centers

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
Region 5 Visitor Centers

Lyons/Zaremba Inc, 2009–2012
Each of the new Visitor Centers on US Fish & Wildlife Refuges in Region 5 need to be specific to the animals and habitats of each location, but possess a unified look that ties them to the existing visual style for the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

The main goals of the space are to acquaint people with the mission of the USFWS, provide visitors with a preview of animals and plants that they might see on the trail, and promote ecologically-friendly practices like using less resources and becoming conscious of endangered species.
Graphic panels use typographic styles from existing printed materials and a color palette that evokes the forests, coastlines, skies, and bodies of water of the Northeast. Interchangeable panels and write-on surfaces allow staff to change featured species with the seasons. A large diorama in the middle of the exhibit space provides a snapshot of what can be seen while on the trail at each refuge.
Exploration is encouraged. Visitors touch, lift, listen, and test their knowledge of local plants and animals throughout the exhibit.
