Another assignment for Digital Storytelling and the Illustrator Friday Challenge. The term this week was pet. Sometimes the word pet can be dehumanizing and degrading. I wanted to invoke those darker connotations through this composition.

I thoroughly enjoyed this assignment even though I ran out of time to really work on the face and hair. My initial idea was to have a collar with a leash hanging down her back, which may have giving a stronger connection to the term pet. Since I drew the subject in a kimono I felt the kanji for the term dog fit better.
This was another project where I think I gained a lot of practice with shading and layer management. I also got to play around more with adjustment layers which helped me become more comfortable with adding them into my workflow.
