Bodum French Press: Instructional Infographic
Student Work

Bodum’s current instruction booklet supplied with the Brazil French Press coffee maker is written in 14 different languages and as a result, makes the booklet thicker in size and has a look that is removed from the minimalism of the Bodum brand and existing packaging. As part of the Information Design class at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, this redesigned instructional booklet removes the multilingual instructions and places emphasis on instructional diagrams understandable by all readers.

Taking inspiration from Ikea’s assembly instructions, the current instruction booklet is adapted to a three panel, double-sided, full-bleed, visual instruction card. All icons on the instruction card are represented in a minimal style to not only be easy to understand but to also fit with the Bodum brand.

All the written information from the original instruction booklet is removed with the exception of “1tbsp = 4oz” and “4min” for measuring and brewing. The unit abbreviations were common for nearly all 14 languages in the original booklet; therefore their inclusion with icons of a spoon, cup, and clock make the instructions for measuring and brewing universal for international audiences, while still keeping minimal and relatively wordless.
