This project was part of the extended research conducted on an earlier project for patient cleaning systems at IIT Guwahati, guided by Professor Pradeep G. Yammiyavar.
We built a voice based interface for environment where use of hands/limbs is largely restricted. User testing was carried out with 6 individuals, none of whom had prior experience with the system. To verfiy that regular conversation does not trigger the system, users were explained the procedure while the system was running. Accidental triggers did not happen.
Ease of learning was of primary importance, and users were given only a minute to play with the input system. They were then presented with a series of inputs to provide to the system. 100% of users were able to provide the inputs 1000, 1001, and 1010, while the number was 83.3% for the remainder of the input combinations. It was observed that with a little bit of more practice, users were able to provide the right input almost every time.
