SOLAR POWERED DELIVERY DRONE
The MDD is a high speed, long range multipurpose delivery drone. MDD not only satisfies the demand of online purchasing, but also fits well into the urban lifestyle of 2040.
Research has shown that the percentage increase in people buying goods online is climbing sharply and by 2040, the numbers will be off the charts. Therefore the demand has to be met and products must be delivered on time. By 2040, the population is going to cross 9 billion and therefore there is going to be a serious inadequacy of land /space to live.

Once an order is placed online, the customers receive a code which is later used as a confirmation code.

The MDD has a camera in the front is to detect the customer's face and based on customers' height, the drone will hover and  hand over the product to them using mechanical arms which are concealed under the drone.  We would still prefer to have the delivery made from hand to hand. There is a display on the MDD for the controller at the drone control station to see the drone hardware data and delivery details. Once the drone is very close to its destination, it will send the customer a notification. The customer would’ve received a code while placing the order online. This confirmation code must be sent to MDD and it will verify it and deliver the product accordingly. MDD uses the customer's phone as a beacon to detect their location. So regardless of where the customer is, MDD will deliver the product to them
There is always the fear of theft and product damage, chances of people shooting the drone down and thieving the product. The drone is capable of flying at higher altitudes owing to its wing design. Keeping safety in mind, the storage unit is lined with shock absorbing foam, which will cushion the products inside if the drone were to crash.
The body of MDD will be made from Carbon fiber or much recently developed Carbon-Carbon. The primary objective during manufacturing is to make MDD as light as possible but at the same time not compromising on the mechanical sturdiness. The storage unit is sandwiched between the battery banks. The rotors used for the stabilizers and the main propeller will be FRPs (Fiber Reinforced Polymers) and the entire surface of MDD will be lined with the solar thin films i.e. CIGS Flexible Modules connected in series.

The dimension of the drone is approximately 125cm x 125cm x 60cm. The front stabilizer propellers are 75cm in diameter and the rear propeller is 150cm wide. The storage unit is 60cm x 45cm x 45cm and the maximum payload carrying capacity is 5Kgs.
The ETA for delivery is calculated on the basis of weather forecast. So the customer knows when their product would be delivered to them.

The concept can be incorporated with scenarios where a speedy delivery of the product is crucial. Very often we notice that the hospitals do not have the right blood group to perform a certain surgical procedure. At dire times like this, if the drone were to deliver the blood in time, it could surely save a life. The concept can be further extended to mobile first aid drones. In case of a mishap, the drone stores first aid kits that will be delivered to the victims and curtail the degree of damage.
