Overview
Issio ASC is a robust native app designed for iPads and Android tablets to be used in surgery centers. When I joined Issio, the look and primary functionality of the app were already established. My main job was to design 225 UI screens, which was about half of the entire app. After the initial designer left, I oversaw design quality and consistency during the development process. I also art directed a team of two junior designers in the process of putting together printed user guides.
Process
We used an agile method. The CEO, CTO, and occasionally I created flowcharts for the desired content. We went from discussion, to white-board sketches, to OmniGraffle. Based on my interpretation of the flowcharts I used Photoshop to create mockups with IxD considerations for the developers. The entire team met weekly to review individual progress. After designs were accepted, I added annotations to my wireframes and was available if the developers had any questions. Some of the developers were in India. We used Assembla for the build. I was involved in QA and we brought nurses in for user research.
