The JUF Tikkun Olam Volunteers and Local Synagogues

The Jewish United Fund and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago have a dedicated group of Tikkun Olam Volunteers (TOV) who regularly travel to local synagogues to help plan volunteer projects and other opportunities for getting involved in the community. TOV members also help congregations organize mitzvah days, whether that entails volunteering directly at agencies or engaging in on-site activities. In the past, these opportunities have ranged from preparing and serving food to those in need to spending a day playing sports with children and young adults with disabilities. TOV identifies the particular interests and needs of each synagogue to find the best opportunities for members of the congregation.

In addition to helping to organize specific events, TOV sends staff and committee members to speak to congregations and their groups about a variety of topics related to volunteering.

TOV also hosts various drives to benefit organizations in Chicagoland and depends on local synagogues to become collection sites. In addition, TOV helps congregations to launch their own drives, if desired.
