In my quest for finding a conservatory to follow my dream of studying Jazz, I was looking for an open minded university which at the same time that it is demanding of a student’s full capabilities it would also allow and motivate them to have their own voices in an environment which provides musical inspiration. I find it important to be surrounded by inspired teachers and fellow students because the way music works, players feed off of each other’s energy. I believe Codarts is a university that provides this setting, where what drives a student’s creativity is music itself and not only competition.

 

Also important is for this to be set in a vibrant city offering possibilities for musicians to show their work and thus motivate them to keep working and improving upon their work, in what a musician's life is at its most rewarding, where one never really stops studying. Rotterdam is a city I would love to live in, and the new musical possibilities would be a great source of inspiration.

 

When looking for musicians to record my pre-selection videos with, I met bassist Tie Pereira and guitarist Lucas Martinez, both former students of Codarts. They recorded the videos with me and confirmed what I thought of Codarts, saying they had great experiences, teachers and stories of their time there. I was impressed with their musicianship and professionalism and hope I can go through a similar programme.
