The logo is a synthesis of the three museums that make up the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which are the Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Harvard University Herbaria, and the Mineralogical and Geological Museum. In the same way the museums are brought together, each emblem is combined as one to encourage comparative learning and evolutionary exploration of our natural world. The forms break out of the confines of the logotype in the same way that the physical displays of the museum come alive—promoting exploration, curiosity, learning, and growth.
