Award winning wireless ear buds with in-ear heart rate monitor
to enhance fitness training
The goal
The world's first all-in-one earbud training solution with built-in heart rate monitor. It must have a secure fit, a great audio and comfort experience when training. Finally the user should get on-the-go audio coaching from the Jabra SPORT LIFE app.
The process and my work
I was responsible for ensuring the best comfort in the product where motion, dirt, sweat and sunlight influences the biometric sensor measurements. I planned, executed, analyzed, presented and updated the size, shape and material of the ear buds together with mechanical engineer to secure the highest possible comfort experience and precise heart rate measurements.
I did multiple user tests indoor and outdoor on internal and external users in Denmark and US.
I was also part of the early development work where the needs from marathon runners and triathletes were obtained through trend research, surveys, interviews and focus groups. We discovered the challenges with controlling button when running, fitting ear buds when sweating and knowing what to hear when being coached to perform optimally.
I did user tests on the Jabra SPORT LIFE app, did bug fixing and did numerous expert reviews to to generate solutions to increase the overall user experience.
The result and my learnings
The most secure sport Bluetooth headset from Jabra and perhaps the most secure in the world?
I contributed significantly to the influence and importance of doing UX tests from early to late phases of product development and hereby increasing focus on quality of the product (durability, ease of use, fit, comfort and heart rate monitoring).
I learned a lot about how to priortize features in a product that both should provide great audio, perfect fit and accurate measurements. I learned how to guide the user to find the best fit the user's ears - both on packaging, Quick Start Guide and in the app. Finally, I learned a lot about how to collaborate with other engineers, marketeers as well as external consultants and clients developing, testing and validating this product before its launch.
