The SEED Center of Center for Sustainability, Energy Efficiency & Design is located on the main campus of Philadelphia University. Once the Hughes Gym, the university saw great potential for a retrofit of this structure. In 2010 the SEED Center was completed. It is now ranked as a LEED Gold Building. The building utilizes passive systems in order to heat and cool the interior spaces. Although this building has modern and simplistic architectural details, it is confusing and cold space to engage with.
In order to combat this issue a new wayfinding system will need to fulfill several basic needs for the current and future users of the center. The structure contains several different programmatic spaces which includes critiquw/pin-up areas, studios, a computer lab, construction management offices, a conference room, classrooms, a kitchen, graduate studies studios, a fabrication shop and materials library. All of these spaces have unique characteristics.

The main exterior sign will consist of an application of material to the original sign as well as two sculptural corten planters to frame the entrance. These planters will be constructed of the same material used on the application of the existing sign to show consistency and draw attention to the main entrance of the building. These planters will also serve to aid in stormwater management which ties into the LEED considerations associated with the SEED Center.

Throughout the first floor, The Construction Management Program has a multitude of offices and professional service spaces. The offices and particularly the conference areas contain glass interior windows and doors. To promote the unity within the directional system, the silk-screened numbering will occur in places as to not obscure views or display. The potential to use a frosting application to the windows with color will futher this idea as well.
